Leuna 15.1.1964 Blick auf die Industrieanlagen des VEB Leuna-Werke Walter Ulbricht. An dem bedeutendsten Chemie-Standort der DDR waren bis zu 40.000 Werktätige beschäftigt. Es gab zwei eigene Bahnhöfe und eine eigene Infrastruktur mit Buslinie, Poliklinik und Berufsschule innerhalb des Werksgeländes. Daneben war Leuna aber auch ein Begriff für Umweltverschmutzung in der DDR: Wie bei anderen Industrie-Großkombinaten auch waren die umliegenden Gemeinden einer enormen Staubbelastung ausgesetzt, Landschaften waren vergiftet und in der Luft hing ein typischer Geruch.
