Shuttle astronaut with a home made tool on Space Shuttle mission 51-D, 1985.
This mission was to launch two communications satellites, but on one of them, Leasat 3, the booster failed to ignite on release from the Shuttle. Two astronauts, Jeffrey Hoffman and David Griggs, attached this tool, nicknamed the 'fly swatter', to the end of the Shuttle's robot arm. It was then used, unsuccessfully, to try and flick a switch on Leasat 3 to set the firing sequence in motion. The satellite was later repaired in orbit by the 51-I Shuttle mission (August 1985).\nSSPL/SSPL
