A young girl receives her polio vaccine at a health station in the village of Dresa in Western Eritrea. The polio vaccination campaign under the motto "Kick Polio out of Eritrea" is part of an Africa wide campaign to eradicate polio from the continent, sponsored by the World Health Organisation WHO and in this village organised by the local health authorities. In the days before the vaccination, the campaign was promoted in the area via loudspeaker announcements from a mobile clinic. When vaccination day approached, the mothers in Dresa took their children to the health station and waited for their turn to receive the vaccine, as did this young girl with her sister. Dresa is a resettlement village in Gash Barka province for Eritrean
refugees who only recently returned to their homeland from refugee camps across the border in Sudan - some of them after more than 30 years. Doctor, child, health, third world, Horn of Africa.
